Windy and Soggy

April 27th, 2022 No comments

I haven’t been recording the few rides I’ve taken since Raffi’s marvelous repair; this is the first post-about-a-ride I’ve written this year.

Raffi is a Di Blasi R34, and his battery originally
sat under the rear rack. It now sits under the seat,
on the inner edge of the rack platform.

We’d had a night of heavy rains, and the sky was active this day, but it was a good bet that we’d get a ride in before more rain fell. This turned out to be the case — and when the “rain” came, it was light snowflakes, instead!

Raffi is Back!

April 22nd, 2022 No comments

It’s taken months, with, admittedly, some time out for winter weather, but Raffi is on the road again after his November disaster.

New configuration: The battery’s under the seat, reversed,
with the horrible mount facing backwards. A small bungee
spider web is wrapped around the battery case handle,
and allows the battery to be easily clipped on and off.

After troubleshooting with a good riding friend (thank you, Mike!), and interested input from Ian, a fellow blogger (Aussie on a Brompton, highly recommended!), I set to work and did my best to resolve Raffi’s dilemma — and failed. Repeatedly. However, I did verify that his battery could be moved from its original placement below the rear rack to under his seat, at the inner end of his rear rack, and that was key to the ultimate resolution.

Errands and Other Stuff

It was errand day yesterday, but didn’t turn out as expected in any way. First stop was a fabric store, to pick up some interfacing. Somehow I missed the implications of having ridden Raffi to the store, and asked for a bolt board. I use these at home to store fabric neatly. It was (ahem) a whole lot longer than Raffi’s cargo shelf.

I tied it in a large plastic bag, stuffed it under the knapsack I’d brought for our second errand, and wrapped the cargo net through the knot and around it all. Cargo nets rule!

Then it was on to the hardware store. Based on the information supplied by the store’s website, my target purchase on this errand excursion was in stock — 38 cans worth. I only needed two.

A Babbling Creek

November 18th, 2021 No comments

If there such a thing as a perfect autumn day, this was it. Cold and crisp, but not too cold or crisp, and not particularly windy.

One of the local creeks was filled with madly rushing water. Is there a better sound than that of tumbling water over rocks? (At least when there’s no imminent chance of flooding!)

Coffeeneuring 7

November 15th, 2021 No comments

For our last Coffeeneuring run, Raffi and I headed to a small park I have often driven past, but never entered.

Except for the temperature — cold! — it seemed much more like a March day than one in November; the wind was high and we fought it a little bit at times. But the ride was crisp and refreshing, and a fine end to this autumn’s Coffeeneuring.

No coffee today; we’ve already done our two permitted Coffeeneuring excursions for this week, so this trip was just for fun.

Autumn has just barely arrived, and is already almost gone. I lived for years where there were no seasons, and hated it, so I don’t really mind the changes, but I admit to wishing that fall lasted, oh, say, twice as long as it does.

Coffeeneuring 3

November 1st, 2021 No comments

A little jaunt to start the new week, and our third Coffeeneuring excursion.

We went in search of a park we hadn’t known about, but probably didn’t find it. This is not-a-park-by-an-overpass — and next to a stream. No matter; we had a fine time, and this was a place we had never been before.

Coffeeneuring 2

October 31st, 2021 No comments

This trip was full of minor disasters, but, hey, we made it!

Raffi posed, partly, with some deep autumn reds. These colors might be all we get this year; at the rate leaves are falling, there won’t be any left by the first frost.

Coffeeneuring 1

October 31st, 2021 No comments

Owing to various circumstances, Raffi and I didn’t make it out during the first week of the Coffeeneuring challenge. This may make it difficult to complete the event . . . but we’ll see. And hope the weather cooperates.

Our first ride was on October 28, to an old grove tree stand which happens to have convenient, if concrete, benches, allowing for a bit of refection and reflection.

The Cabbage Run

August 16th, 2021 No comments

Fermenting is happening in our household, so when Raffi and I went out for our ride this morning, we picked up a cabbage. (Yes, it felt a little strange riding around with just a cabbage in the basket, but, hey, why not?)

The outer leaves will be sacrificed for a barrier in the pickle jugs. But that’s not all we did.
