No coffee today; we’ve already done our two permitted Coffeeneuring excursions for this week, so this trip was just for fun.

Autumn has just barely arrived, and is already almost gone. I lived for years where there were no seasons, and hated it, so I don’t really mind the changes, but I admit to wishing that fall lasted, oh, say, twice as long as it does.

Coffeeneuring 6

November 9th, 2021 No comments

Today’s expedition — the sixth of the seven Coffeeneuring trips — was to the largest park we’ve been to, so far.

Raffi posed under an obliging tree while I settled in for a few quiet moments.

Coffeeneuring 5

November 8th, 2021 No comments

It was a beautiful, much warmer, day today, for our fifth Coffeeneuring excursion.

Although I’ve ridden Raffi for over 100 miles/162 km,
he still looks like new. We don’t ride in rain, which I’m sure helps.

I had bundled up Raffi’s battery before checking the temperature. I ended up removing his felt battery cover, and also had to dig out a lighter coat for me. (For the record, I minded neither!)

What I Wore In October

November 4th, 2021 No comments

On days when I ride, all I want is a fast escape, but I have a few executive functioning difficulties, so I like to work out the flaws the night before. Assembling kit is essential, and it’s really helpful if I keep track of what I’m comfortable wearing in any given temperature range.

It’s also been a while since I’ve ridden in cooler weather, so it’s time to gather data. This is what I wore on a morning that ranged from 50 F/10 C to 65 F/18 C. Read more…

Coffeeneuring 4

November 4th, 2021 No comments

Thanks to Covid — not a phrase I ever expect to use much — I’ve discovered  a surprising number of local places where Raffi and I can Coffeeneur and/or enjoy small picnics.

Today’s excursion was to a small park next to a not-much-larger wooded area.

Coffeeneuring 3

November 1st, 2021 No comments

A little jaunt to start the new week, and our third Coffeeneuring excursion.

We went in search of a park we hadn’t known about, but probably didn’t find it. This is not-a-park-by-an-overpass — and next to a stream. No matter; we had a fine time, and this was a place we had never been before.

Mileage Ridden on my Di Blasi R34 – October 2021

October 31st, 2021 No comments

Total Mileage for October, 2021: 10.06 miles/16 km

Total mileage, year-to-date: 65.14 (104.8 km) (The year started very late, Ida didn’t help, and, for that and other reasons, we hardly rode in September and October.)

Coffeeneuring 2

October 31st, 2021 No comments

This trip was full of minor disasters, but, hey, we made it!

Raffi posed, partly, with some deep autumn reds. These colors might be all we get this year; at the rate leaves are falling, there won’t be any left by the first frost.

Coffeeneuring 1

October 31st, 2021 No comments

Owing to various circumstances, Raffi and I didn’t make it out during the first week of the Coffeeneuring challenge. This may make it difficult to complete the event . . . but we’ll see. And hope the weather cooperates.

Our first ride was on October 28, to an old grove tree stand which happens to have convenient, if concrete, benches, allowing for a bit of refection and reflection.

A Few Thoughts About Coffeeneuring

October 31st, 2021 No comments

A variety of things, post-Ida, have kept Raffi and me out of commission, but now we’re about to get back on the road in my favorite season — autumn. First on the agenda is Coffeeneuring.

If you complete the challenge, you can buy a beautiful
embroidered patch. Well worth it!
This one is from a former year, earned honestly,
because I’m not a lying liar.

MG, of Chasing Mailboxes, developed the delightful practice of Coffeeneuring just over a decade ago.  The idea is that you meet a specific set of challenges over a specific time frame, cycling for a specific number of miles, while stopping for coffee or another beverage each trip.

I’ve participated in the past, and really enjoyed the experience. In Pandemic Times, the process may be a little different — people like me are still not going to spend any appreciable time in a coffee shop — but the event goes on, and I intend to attempt to meet the described targets this fall.
